It has been quite a while since my last post, and I apologize for that. Much has passed since I've last blogged, so I am not sure how much I can recapitulate. But I will try to sum it up shortly.
Once our class arrived back from break, we studied for and took the Physics mid-term. That ended our motion-map/velocity/acceleration section. And with that, our class started another larger section of forces.
One of the first things Mr.B taught us when dealing with forces is that, you can only talk of forces if one object is acting upon another object. So, you basically can't talk of a force, unless it involves two objects.(We have not reached the magnetic section yet. So even though it is possible that a force may occur with only one object, we have not reached that point as of now.) With that assertion, Mr.B does not allow us to mention forces unless it's an object that you can buy. For example, Mr.B does not let us say gravity, since you can't buy a gravity. But instead we must say earth force, since the earth is pulling down on an object through it's rotational spin and because you can buy some earth. I also learned that normal force is when an object is acting on another object perpendicularly, or equally. For example, a book being held up by the earth and the earth holding up the book is a normal force.
Another important thing we learned is, if forces don't equal out, then the forces are unbalanced and the object is accelerating. If the forces are equal, the object is either motionless, or moving at a constant speed. Lastly, I wanted to mention how we learned that if there is a diagonal force, you can split it and find the upward/downward and sideways forces.Or, if you have a sideways and upward/downward slope, you can use the pythagorean theorem to find the slope of the diagonal line.
